New bus routes have been added to those that were reinstated following the closure of Darwen Coach Services.

From Monday, January 30 Travel Assist have agreed to run several of the services in Darwen and the rural areas that were lost when Darwen Coaches ceased trading.

Darwen will be served by the TA08 Darwen to Watery Lane via Knowlesley Road, Cranberry Lane and Spring Vale and the TA06 Darwen to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

There will also be a TA03 Darwen to Birch Hall Avenue via via Richmond Terrace, Greenway Street, Sunnyhurst, Ribble Avenue  and Ash Grove.

Rural areas will be served by the TA01 Darwen to Harwood Morrisons via Blacksnape, Edgworth, Bromley Cross and Chapeltown  and the Darwen to Bury via Blacksnape and Edgworth TA02 service.

The services join those that have been taken on by Blackburn Private Hire and Moving People.

From Monday, January 16, Blackburn Private Hire will run the number 3 bus route to Sunny Bower via Little Harwood and the number 10 Wensley Fold via Beardwood  and Lammack (10) as well as the Higher Croft services (12A/12C).

Moving People will take over the Blackburn – Darwen service (33) from Monday,  January 30 and will  operate via Royal Blackburn Hospital, Blackamoor, Lower Darwen, Chapels and Hoddlesden.

After Darwen Coach Services ceased trading on December 16 last year, Blackburn with Darwen Council took immediate steps to ensure that statutory school routes were maintained and began discussions with local bus companies about re-registering routes previously withdrawn.

Timetables will be published next week.
