Blackburn with Darwen Council is on the hunt to find the person who can help drive the exciting new innovation centre planned for Blackburn Town Centre.
The Council has announced a vacancy for the new role of director of The Making Rooms, a three floor facility set to open in the former bank known as Bentleys.
The Making Rooms will be devoted to small scale manufacturing, digital innovation and art and will aim to carry on the proud tradition of ‘making’ that has been a part of the town since the industrial revolution.
Equipped with cutting edge equipment such as 3D printers and CNC machinery it will allow anyone who has an idea for a product to test and try it out.
The Exchange Street facility will also host a technology hub for new businesses to use as a work space as well as providing courses, events and groups based around digital innovation.
One of the aims of The Making Rooms will be to support young people in the borough and offer training in collaboration with school and colleges.
And there will also be studios, workshops and exhibition spaces for artists and craftspeople, as well as provision for artist residences for both local and international artists.
The new director’s post is an exciting and varied role and the successful applicant will be someone who can work well with individuals and organisations in a variety of different sectors from makers, entrepreneurs and artists to large commercial businesses.
The directorship is an incredibly balanced role between leadership, hands on operational support and forward planning in order to achieve the success of this highly visible project.
