Building work has started at a new housing development at the former Sappi Paper Mill site on Livesey Branch Road in Blackburn.

The new development, known as ‘Watermills’, will feature approximately 450 homes and four industrial units and will provide an important road link between Moulden Brow and Livesey Branch Road.

Councillor Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive Member for Growth and Development, said:

The new housing development at Watermills is the result of a great deal of hard work by growth and planning officers to bring a complicated proposal to fruition.  The Watermills development will regenerate an old brownfield site and bring up to 450 new homes to the borough.  In addition, the new road being built at the site will eventually help to alleviate traffic problems in the area too.

Watermills project manager, John Gladwyn, from Amenbury Property said:

I am delighted that we have now commenced development at Watermills.  The site is bounded by approximately 1.7km of canal and ancient woodland, with the River Roddlesworth running through one of the later phases. The quality of the local schools, sports facilities, local amenities, good broadband speed and convenient access to the M65 makes the Pleasington and Feniscowles area a popular place to live.  The development will provide a range of two – five bedroom houses built to a high specification.  ‘Help to Buy’ will also be available for first time buyers looking to buy a house up to £224,400.

Josh Paterson, director of the building contractors, Torpoint, added:

We have worked with John on a number of projects including a 600 dwelling scheme in West Yorkshire.  We have been preparing to start Watermills for many months and are now delighted to be onsite and are aiming for the first house to be completed before Christmas.

Watermills will be opening their on-site sales centre on Saturday 31 July 2021 on Livesey Branch Road, however purchasers can register their interest at www.watermills.uk or by emailing myhome@watermills.uk
