Blackburn with Darwen Council and its partners will put the 5 Ways to Wellbeing front and centre of a new five-week campaign launching on Monday, May 17.

The campaign will use the 5 Ways to promote various local services and activities designed to make people feel good and function well.

The 5 Ways to Wellbeing is a proven, simple set of actions that anyone can take to positively impact their day-to-day wellbeing.

They are simple, small improvements that can help people feel good about themselves and the world around them.

The campaign will run until Sunday, June 20 with each week focussing on one of the 5 ways:

Week 1: 17th – 23rd May: Take Notice
Week 2: 24th – 30 May: Keep Learning
Week 3: 31st May – 6th June: Be Active
Week 4: 7th – 13th June: Help Others
Week 5: 14th – 20th June: Connect

A timetable of activities happening across the borough during each week, and delivered by a range of partners, will be made available online very soon.

Activities will include everything from mindfulness, meditation, arts and crafts, first aid, stress busting, dementia awareness, training, reading support and walking to community history, IT, cycling, parks and open spaces, toddler trails, coping with change, sports and much more.

The timetable will arrive very soon on our dedicated campaign webpage.

Find an activity to attend, either online or in person, follow the link to the host organisation’s booking process and sign up.

Animations and printed materials are being produced as part of the campaign which will have more detail about each of the 5 ways, how they can help, why they’re important and how people can get involved – keep an eye on the borough’s bus shelters and digital advertising screens!

The campaign will also be visible on social media and searchable on Twitter using: #5waysbwd

Dominic Harrison, Director of Public Health, said:

This campaign and its programme of activities are designed to encourage people to take up something new, or do more of something they already do, because it feels good and it has a positive effect on their mood.

We all need a bit of that at the moment. Covid has been really tough and it has stopped us from doing lots of things we enjoy and would normally do.

So we want to encourage people to explore all the opportunities in our borough that can positively impact their wellbeing.

Doing just one of these activities will help but doing one or more activity from each week is a guaranteed way to feel the maximum benefits of this campaign.
