Never a dull moment with Council apprentice jobs

This year’s Apprenticeship scheme offers a huge range of jobs for young people in the borough.

Blackburn with Darwen Council’s apprentice scheme this year will be young people led – that means we want to create the opportunities that you actually want

All applicants will be asked to tell us the kinds of roles they are looking for – encouraging you all to think about what kinds of roles you are interested in.

If you are not sure what you want to do, we are creating a number of ‘rotational’ opportunities where you will have chance to work in a number of departments over the course of the year to gain as much knowledge  and experience as possible to help you decide where your skills are best placed.

The work the Council does is always changing so no two days are ever the same.  We have more than 200 different kinds of jobs and are the most diverse employer in the Borough. Many people don’t realise the range of opportunities that exist within the Council, from plumbers, jobs in sport and leisure, to carers and IT to gardeners.

Our young population is one of our greatest assets and we firmly believe that harnessing the skills, energy and enthusiasm of our young people will help to give us a strong local economy and create a place where people want to live, work and visit in the future.  It’s why we’re committed to continuing to invest in our young people and in the borough, despite budget cuts.

Blackburn with Darwen Council want young people to work with us, growing as a person, gaining new skills, learning and developing your experience to help shape and deliver the best service for more than 146,000 people who live here.

Councillor Mohammed Khan, Leader of the Council, said:

I hope our young people will take a look at the apprentice scheme which can give them so many chances for learning and being a part of an organisation with many opportunities they may not have been aware of. We look forward to welcoming them to the Council.

Harry Catherall, Chief Executive of the Council, said:

There is a huge variety of jobs at Blackburn with Darwen Council, probably more than people realise, and we know that there are so many talented young people in the borough who could grab these opportunities.
