Need to improve your IT skills?  Free library courses and drop-in sessions

A series of basic IT courses and drop-in sessions are being held in libraries across Blackburn and Darwen to help people improve their IT skills.  The courses are free of charge and are designed as basic introductory sessions for people who are new to computers or need to brush up their skills.

  • I have no idea how to use a computer – are there courses on how to use computers?
  • I want to shop online and use sites like eBay and Amazon but I don’t know how to.
  • I want to keep in touch with my family on Facebook and Skype – how do I use these sites?
  • I want to use the internet to find a job. If I come into the library will there be someone who can help me?

There is a general drop in session every Tuesday 10am-12 noon and Wednesday 2pm – 4pm (no booking required).  There are also weekly drop in sessions at Audley and Queen’s Park Neighbourhood Learning Centre on Thursdays between 1pm–3pm.  There are weekly drop in sessions at Bank Top Community Centre on Thursdays between 10am-12pm.

‘Silver Surfers’ course

An 8-week ‘Silver Surfers’ course is being held at Blackburn Library for people over 60 years old.  The course starts on Tuesday 3rd October 2017, 1.30pm-3.30pm.  The course will cover basics such as mouse and keyboard, using the internet and email as well as looking at the gov.uk, Council and Library websites and how to shop online and book holidays.  The course has been designed to build people’s confidence and help learners to see the benefits of being online.  The course will run at a pace that suits the group and support will be on hand for learners.  There are ten places available and booking is essential.  To find out more or to book a place call (01254) 661221.
