The second National Festival of Making – probably the first of its kind in the world –  has been featured in a leading online magazine that celebrates the creative industry.

The article, which looks back at the Festival’s first ‘stellar’ event in 2017 explores this year’s exciting line-up being held again here in Blackburn.

The unique free family festival will take place this year on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13, 2018.

The first event of its kind was held last year and attracted more than 30,000 visitors to the borough.

There were over 100 have-a-go workshops, thrilling street performance, the best in handcrafted fashion and the finest food and drink.

Supported again by co-founder and influential designer Wayne Hemingway, the National Festival of Making brings together artists, designers, national and international manufacturers, small-scale makers and the public together to explore the potential of ‘making’.

Cllr Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, said:

We are delighted to have the Festival in Blackburn for a second year, which people from all over the world came to experience.

We have a long proud history of Making going back to the industrial revolution when Blackburn was the weaving capital of the globe. Today we have some world class manufacturers and a wealth of creatives and artists, this festival gives us the perfect platform to share this.

Visitors to the festival took away with them fantastic memories of Blackburn, so anyone that missed last year’s event has the chance to join in this year, there’s something for everyone and best of all its FREE.
