Thousands of people turned out in Darwen at the weekend for the annual Christmas Lights switch-on.
The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Cllr Pat McFall joined celebrity guest and former Girls Aloud band member, Nadine Coyle on stage as a finale at the event.
Father Christmas made an appearance too as the crowds counted down to the festive lights being officially switched on to a backdrop of fireworks.
It’s believed more than 4,000 people gathered in Market Square to watch a packed programme of performances – including numbers from Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist and local girl, Ella Shaw.
Nadine told the crowds that Darwen reminded her of her hometown of Derry, where she hoped to spend Christmas this year.
She added:
“Thank-you all for coming out tonight and making good memories together.
“I have had a brilliant time with you.
“The whole town coming out together is a beautiful sight to see.”
The star performed an half-hour set, including Girls Aloud hits and her own solo songs before finishing with festive favourite – ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town.’
The event kicked off a busy calendar of festive events in Blackburn with Darwen, with X Factor star Grace Davies taking to the stage on Saturday (November 24) for Blackburn’s Christmas Light Switch On.
