The first scheme of modular build homes, located on Alaska Street, have been developed by the Council in partnership with Places for People.

The much-awaited introduction of 73 new family homes is nearing completion, and will provide high-quality, comfortable modern homes for families across the borough.

Places for People, a key Housing Association working with the Council, have previously built around 260 new homes in the Infirmary Waterside area. The current works on Alaska Street complete the larger redevelopment of the Infirmary clearance area.

This development will be closely followed by a scheme of 16 new two and three bed modular family homes on Shorrock Lane.

These will be located at the site of the demolished Laneside Older Person’s Home, which the Council acquired through a compulsory purchase order in 2019.

The homes are being built by Tyson Construction on behalf of Great Places Housing Association and are planned to be ready for occupation later this year.

Great Places are also developing 56 new family homes for shared ownership and affordable rent on part of the Griffin clearance site.

The scheme is the first phase of redevelopment in the clearance area and will provide two three and four bed homes, alongside regenerating the area and providing an opportunity to diversify the local housing offer.

As well as this, Great Places are also developing 24 new family homes at Bowen Street and 42 new family homes at New Wellington Street in Mill Hill.

Another flagship housing scheme will begin in spring at Fishmoor. This will see Together Housing and Countryside Homes building around 383 new family homes for shared ownership, rent and market sale.

The new developments will bring enhanced highways and public spaces to help revitalise the Roman Road neighbourhood.

Councillor Phil Riley, Executive Member for Growth and Development, said:

It’s fantastic to be moving forward with our plans for increasing affordable housing across the borough.

These schemes will bring huge benefits to residents, regenerating the area and delivering much-needed additional housing options.

The thriving housing market in the borough will undoubtedly attract more investment and that can only help our recovery from the impact of covid.

I’m very excited to see these redevelopments take shape!
