The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen will lead a minute’s silence to remember victims of the Tunisian beach attack.

The silence, part of a national act of remembrance, will take place outside Blackburn Town Hall on Friday, July 3 at 12pm, a week after the shooting which killed 38 people.

A silence will also take place outside Darwen Town Hall at the same time.

Councillor Faryad Hussain, Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, said: “This was a sickening attack on people just enjoying their holiday.

“Our hearts go out to all the victims and their families at this tragic time. It is right as a borough and as a community we come together and pay our respects.”

Councillor Mohammed Khan, leader of the Council, said: “We are all appalled and sickened by the events last Friday.

“Our sympathies and our thoughts are with those who lost loved ones and our prayers are with those who have been injured or caught up in this horrific and senseless crime.

“This was a disgusting act of cowardice. We all need to stand firm against those who wish to do us harm and commit despicable acts against us.”
