Met Office warning of snow and ice remains in place

A Met Office yellow warning of snow and ice currently remains in place for the North West of England.

As expected, an area of snow extended northeastwards from parts of Wales across the Midlands and into parts of northern England on Tuesday night, persisting into Wednesday morning.

It is expected that the outbreaks of sleet and snow will slowly die out throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening but will leave the hazard of icy surfaces on Wednesday night.

It is important to take the weather into account when planning your activity over the next few days with the continued risk of disruption to transport. When indoors try to maintain temperatures to at least 18C.

During bad weather it is also important to look out for friends and family who may be vulnerable to the cold. Discuss with friends and neighbours about clearing snow and ice from in front of your houses and public walkways nearby.
