The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Coun Suleman Khonat, has recorded a video message to share Easter greetings with everyone who’ll be celebrating this weekend.
Easter is one of the most important festivals in the Christian calendar. It marks the end of Lent, a time of sacrifice and repentance, and represents rebirth and new beginnings as Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Mayor Coun Khonat said:
For Christians in our borough, the Easter weekend will be a very special time and, on behalf of Blackburn with Darwen Council, I want to extend best wishes to everyone who will be celebrating this weekend.
Easter this year falls during Ramadan, which also a time of sacrifice, as well as fasting and faith reflection. Over the last two weeks, it’s been wonderful to see our diverse communities coming together through local events and initiatives to mark Ramadan, and I know there’s lots going on this weekend for everyone to share in Easter celebrations together.
However you are planning to spend the Easter weekend, I wish you all the best.
Over the Easter weekend, Blackburn BID is hosting its Spring Into Blackburn event with lots of free family fun on offer – including Easter themed crafts in Blackburn museum, bird mask-making workshops in The Bureau Centre for the Arts, a Lego Easter Make & Take at The Entertainer, Zoo2U animal experience, Lancashire Hawks & Owls and crazy golf. There’s also a chance to get arty at Paint The Town open air painting sessions – pick up art materials from Town Hall Street.
Spring Into Blackburn is taking place on Easter Saturday 8 April, between 11am and 3pm.
The annual Darwen Food & Drink Festival is also running over the Easter weekend, on Sunday 9 and Monday 10 April between 10am and 10pm.
