Making a mark for the NHS in Blackburn with Darwen

Thank you NHS!

That’s the message that will greet hard working hospital staff as they arrive to work at the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Blackburn with Darwen Council teamed up with local contactors Kays Traffic Management and Lining, Uniplay and Ennis-Flint EMEA to pull out all the stops to have the new road markings in place for Thursdays ‘clap for carers.’

And they’ve already proved popular with nurses saying they’ll ‘brighten their day’ when they pass by them on their way in to work and after a long shift.

Councillor Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration said:

These markings look brilliant and are a fantastic way to thank all the staff at the hospital who are working extremely hard in incredibly difficult circumstances.

They are saving lives and this is the very least we can do.

We are truly proud of all the staff at the hospital and all of our key workers in the borough. The sense of community pride in Blackburn with Darwen shines through.

The road markings can be seen at the entrance and exit of Haslingden Road as well as the entrance opposite KFC.

Councillor Riley added:

I’d like to thank our contractors who made this happen.

It’s a great thing to do and to honour our NHS workers and it was a real team effort to get them in place in time for the weekly clap for carers.

The heroism and dedication of NHS workers during this terrible crisis have touched everyone’s hearts and I really hope the markings will help show all staff just how much their efforts are valued by all in Blackburn with Darwen.

All services and materials were donated completely free of charge.

A spokesman for KAYS Traffic Management and Lining said:

We are delighted to express our gratitude to the hardworking NHS.

It is a pleasure for us to celebrate their wonderful work by providing the thermoplastic graphics and lining.

We are proud to work with Uniplay and thermoplastic manufacturer Ennis Flint, who have kindly donated the material.
