National charity TyreSafe are offering free vehicle tyre checks to anyone in Blackburn with Darwen this Friday, 28 July, in partnership with Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Community Safety team.
The free-to-attend road safety event is being held at Blackburn’s ASDA store between 11am and 3.30pm – drivers are welcome to drop in at any time that suits them.
Automotive and cycling retailer Halfords, a supporter of TyreSafe, will be present to provide valuable tyre safety advice and conduct free tyre checks, ensuring vehicles are equipped with roadworthy tyres.
Tyres play a pivotal role in road safety, affecting vehicle handling, braking distances, and fuel efficiency. Regular tyre checks are essential to identify potential issues early on and prevent accidents caused by tyre failures.
Andy Pratt MBE, Deputy Police Crime Commissioner for Lancashire, and Tony Crook, Head of Road Safety at Lancashire County Council, will also be popping along to support the event, which aims to highlight the importance of tyre safety to help residents stay safer on the road.
Stuart Lovatt, Chair of TyreSafe, will also be there to answer questions and provide advice to motorists on the day. He said:
We are delighted to work with Blackburn with Darwen to support this event. Tyre safety is often overlooked but it plays a vital role in keeping us safe on our journeys. We aim to raise awareness about the importance of regular tyre checks and empower the public to make informed decisions about their tyre safety.
Coun Damian Talbot, Executive Member for Prevention & Wellbeing, commented:
This is a great opportunity for motorists to get their tyres checked ahead of making more day trips over summer, to help keep the whole family safe while out and about. I would urge everyone with their own vehicle to take advantage of these free checks on Friday.
My thanks go to the Council’s Community Safety team for arranging the free tyre checks, with TyreSafe, and Blackburn’s Halfords and ASDA stores.
Tony Crook, Lancashire County Council’s Road Safety Manager, said:
Tyres are one of the most important safety features on a vehicle. They are the only part of the vehicle that comes into contact with the road surface, therefore it is vital that all drivers undertake tyre checks to keep everyone safe on the roads of Lancashire.
It’s your duty to protect yourself, your loved ones and other road users from harm. Remember: Slow Down, Save Lives.
