Local history lessons continue online

The latest local history lesson from Blackburn Museum is now live on their YouTube channel.  With the Museum currently closed due to the pandemic social distancing restrictions, the team have worked hard to bring the collections to life for history fans tuning in online.

Made for schools, but suitable for all ages, the latest episode in the Tales from the Collection series is called Local History: 1824 Blackburn and the Industrial Revolution. The episode moves on from the first local history lesson on the earliest map of Blackburn, to take a look at the town in 1824.

This was a time when the Industrial Revolution was well underway, a surprising amount of the town from that time is still to be seen. For this latest episode, the intrepid Museum team explored the town centre at the height of Storm Christoph to find some of the buildings from that period that still stand.

Blackburn with Darwen’s Executive Member for Wellbeing Cllr Damian Talbot said: “It’s wonderful that in spite of all the difficulties that we’ve faced this year we are still able to accommodate some museum learning.  The Museum’s YouTube channel is a great way to illustrate local history. The team have had a great response to the online lessons from residents of all ages, and they love to hear questions and comments from local history lovers.”
