Light up the sky with your creations for Blackburn’s Festival of Light!

This year’s Blackburn Festival of Light is calling for people to get creative at home to be part of a striking light up projection piece on Blackburn Town Hall.

This year’s Blackburn Festival of Light (12th – 26th November 2020), usually celebrated with a spectacular light parade, will take place virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival is asking for 1 minute video submissions of you and your family taking part in virtual parade activities. You can find tutorials on parade dance routines, how to make a lantern or a shadow puppet show, and how to create a stunning light up costume on the Festival of Light YouTube channel.

You can also order a special festival kit with all you need to create beautiful light up features to include in your videos.

Submissions are being taken until Friday at 12pm in time to be showcased in a huge light up projection piece by DoubleTake projections on Blackburn Town Hall!

But don’t worry, anything that is submitted later will be incorporated into the virtual Facebook Festival of Light event.

You can submit your films on the Blackburn Festival of Light website. Don’t forget to tick the permissions box or your footage won’t be used!

Kerris Casey-St. Pierre, Artistic Director of Blackburn Festival of Light, said:

This is our 9th year of Blackburn Festival of Light and although we are really disappointed that we can’t hold a parade this year we are really excited to have this opportunity to create a community centred piece of illuminated art work to share with the whole town.

We’d love as many people to get involved as possible and would like to encourage people to join in. Even if you have missed the projection deadline, there are still ways to get involved.

Although it would be great to have lots of new footage of everyone’s light up creations included in the piece of work, it is the taking part and having fun that is most important, so do have a look at all we have on offer and join in!

This year’s Festival of Light is also taking submission videos to post onto their TikTok. Make sure to follow them!

You can keep up to date with the festival on Facebook, Twitter and instagram.
