Let Us Remember this March

Residents are invited to remember loved ones at an Annual Memorial service in Corporation Park in Blackburn on Sunday March 1st.

Taking place at 2.30 pm the event, held for the past two years, gives families and friends the opportunity to celebrate and commemorate lives lost within the past year.

Whilst hosted in the park, the event is a joint collaboration by Blackburn Cathedral, The Lancashire Council of Mosques, the Interfaith Forum and the Humanist Society.

The event which will be led by the Very Rev. Christopher Armstrong, Dean of Blackburn, will see representatives of all faith groups offer tributes and kind words in memory of all those who have passed, during the past twelve months.

Family and friends will then be given the opportunity to write their own personal messages to loved ones which will then be placed within the memorial garden; the event will also see the memorial tree rededicated by the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Councillor Alan Cottam.

However in change to past years the 2015 memorial service will also see doves released as a universal sign of peace, reconciliation and remembrance.

Michael Singleton HM Coroner said:

It became apparent to me a few years ago that there was no event that could annually mark the passing of loved ones. This event allows all within the Borough to take a few moments of reflection to remember cherished memories of those that are sadly no longer with us.
