Following the terror attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester today, the Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council has shared this statement.

Councillor Phil Riley said:

I want to share my condolences with the people of Manchester who have been affected by today’s abhorrent attack on the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, and the families and friends of those innocent people who have lost their lives.

I am sure that everyone on the Council is horrified and shares the view that no community should live in fear for its safety as they go about practising their religious beliefs.

All members of this council stand in solidarity to condemn this act of hate, violence and terror.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

The Blackburn with Darwen Interfaith Forum also shared their statement:

The Blackburn with Darwen Interfaith Forum outrightly condemns the attack on the Heaton Park Synagogue and its congregation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

We want it to be known that the Interfaith Forum is clear that there is no place, or justification, whatsoever for these attacks.

The Blackburn with Darwen Interfaith Forum member faiths – Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism – roundly calls people of all  faiths, or none, to find ways of coming together and  ensuring  we remain united as one community.
