On the eve of Eid ul-Fitr, Coun Mohammed Khan CBE has shared a video message with greetings for another unusual Eid.
Coun Khan thanks Blackburn with Darwen’s Muslim communities for all their efforts to stay safe during Ramadan this year, when praying in the mosque has been possible.
The Council has worked closely with mosques to give support to them as they strengthened their Covid-secure measures for Ramadan, the Islamic holy month when more worshippers attend mosque.
In his Eid video message, Coun Khan says we all need to be vigilant and offers a reminder of the rules around meeting up outdoors:
- Meet up outside in groups of up to six people, or two households – this includes meeting in private gardens & parks, as well as outside restaurants and cafés
- Do not meet indoors
- Avoid giving hugs and handshakes
- If attending mosque, don’t spend any more time there than is necessary
- Follow the Covid-safe rules in the mosque including sanitising hands and wearing face coverings
- Avoid congregating outside the mosque
- If attending outdoor Eid prayers, stay with your household or support bubble and keep a 2m distance from others
- If visiting the cemetery, only travel in household groups or with your support bubble.
As Coronavirus rates in Blackburn with Darwen increase again, Coun Khan also urges everyone to take up the opportunity to get vaccinated when invited.
Coun Khan says:
Vaccination is the only way forward to get out of this pandemic.
