One Voice Blackburn have launched the 1V Cricket Academy with the help of Council leader, Councillor Mohammed Khan.
Supported by BBC Children In Need, the 1V Cricket Academy will help make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people right here in Blackburn.
The Cricket Academy was launched by the Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, a keen cricketer himself.
It will provide free coaching for children aged 6-12 by three level 2 qualified cricket coaches, the sessions will be expanded in the new year to cover ages 13 to 18.
The indoor sessions take place at Bangor Street Community Centre.
Cricket is one of the most popular sports in Blackburn and the programme has been designed to provide an outlet and teach the children and young people the benefit of sport and cricket in particular.
The sessions teach the children and young people how to bat, bowl and field and the basic rules of cricket, the equipment required and how to get and stay involved with clubs and organisations.
Councillor Mohammed Khan, said:
This is a fantastic initiative and I am delighted to support it. Sport can make a huge difference to young peoples’ lives and a game like cricket in particular helps teach them the values of hard work and supporting one another.

The 1V Cricket Academy is a great opportunity to give support to young people and potentially improve their lives. We could not reach out to the young people in Blackburn without the support of BBC Children in Need.
