Leader comment on Afghanistan

The Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, Councillor Mohammed Khan CBE, has issued a statement on the events in Afghanistan.

He said:

It is heart-breaking to see the devastating events happening in Afghanistan. My heart goes out to all who are impacted and, as leader of the Council, I urge the international community to do all it can to support the freedoms and human rights of everyone affected.

We are a welcoming borough and have a long, proud history over more than two decades of helping those less fortunate and settling refugees in desperate situations from around the world. We have always played our part and will continue to do so to the best of our ability.
