Places on a free holiday club scheme are fast running out – make sure you book your place for fun and activity this summer
The places are being offered this summer to children who qualify for free school meals during the school holidays.
The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) summer scheme is running for four weeks and offers free places in holiday clubs to children eligible for free school meals for the equivalent of at least four hours a day, four days a week for four weeks in the school summer holidays.
Free school meal market vouchers will be available for the remaining two weeks of the school holidays, making sure the whole holiday period is covered.
HAF programmes have something for everyone, whether it is arts and crafts, music, dance, drama, sport, cooking, new friendships and wellbeing support – giving children fun activities as well as learning experiences throughout the summer holidays.
The sessions are available from 10am till 2pm in 18 locations and lunch, snacks and refreshments are all provided.
Visit www.getstuckin.org.uk to find out more about what is available in your area or to book your place. The activities are being delivered by Spring North and Blackburn with Darwen Council.
Alternatively, you can call your local children’s centre for other activities or to book a free meal if your child is eligible for free school meals. Call (01254) 507950 and choose the option of your nearest children’s centre.
Councillor Julie Gunn, Executive member for Children, Young People and Education, said:
This is a Government scheme that we then help to run in Blackburn with Darwen and they set the eligibility for the activities. It is a fantastic programme for children who receive free school meals and might not otherwise have the chance to go to a holiday club, and all children deserve a summer of fun and happy memories.
If you are eligible I really hope you will take up a place for your child this summer – There is so much going on across all the clubs and it will be a fantastic experience for the children.”
