Darwen Day will be celebrated in style this weekend as the annual event is hosted on Darwen Market Square on Saturday 3rd July.

The free, fun-filled family day out will run from 10am until 4pm and has been made possible thanks to Let’s Make, Crafty Vintage, Darwen Town Council and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

Measures are being put in place to ensure the event is COVID-secure and safe for everyone to enjoy.

The event will start with a spectacular Superhero Show with a prize for the best dressed character.

Visitors can take a step back in time, sit back and relax in a deckchair whilst listening to the wonderful vintage singers who will entertain throughout the day.

The children can enjoy free fairground rides and try hook a duck or some of the other stalls and maybe get lucky and win a prize!

Councillor, Derek Hardman, Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Council said;

I am attending to support the Darwen Town Council in this family event, it will be great to see family’s out enjoying the entertainment and rides sponsored by the Town Council, hopefully a nice change for family’s after months of restrictions.

Councillor Lilian Salton, Mayor of Darwen Town Council said;

I am very much looking forward to attending Darwen Day and hope that people will come along to support the day. Darwen is a friendly town with a vibrant night life, lots of walks and for people who would like to know more about its past, a fact filled Heritage Centre a short walk from the square and welcomes visitors.

Laura Johnson, from event organisers Crafty Vintage said;

We are delighted to be back doing events in Darwen. It has been so long since we have been able to have events; many have been arranged, postponed and re-arranged behind the scenes. This event has been planned very carefully, including a thorough Covid risk assessment.

She went on to say;

There will be safety measures in place on the day and we ask, that when you attend you follow these to keep everyone safe. We can’t wait to see you all and bring a bit of fun back!

Darwen Day is a free event and all are welcome so pop it in your diaries and we will see you there!

Visitors are being encouraged to take a COVID test before attending to help ensure we all play our part to prevent the virus from spreading.
