Event director Michelle Searby explains what Witton parkrun is and how to get involved
Every Saturday at 9AM you will find a bunch of people in Witton Park ready to run a 5K course all in the name of parkrun.
Parkrun is FREE, it’s TIMED and ANYONE can join in.
All you need to do is register at parkrun.org.uk/register and print off your unique barcode. Bring your barcode with you as you will need it at the end of the run.
We will clap and cheer you on as you run/jog/walk past our friendly volunteers.
Without volunteers there can be no parkrun so we are always extremely grateful to anyone who offers to help us out.
At the finish line you will be timed and then given a finish token, you will need to take both the finish token and your barcode to the scanners, who are usually in the gazebo.
If you fancy a brew or a bacon butty, the Pavilion Café will give parkrunners a discount if you show them your barcode.
Witton parkrun is organised by me. My husband Bryan, Sally and Sean are Run Directors who take it in turns each week to run the event.
Lots of volunteers make this happen and we are always on the lookout for new people to help.
We have lots of roles which include: marshals, timers, scanners, token sorters, pacers, tail runners, pre-event set up, post event clear up.
If you fancy coming along to help, please get in touch at wittonhelpers@parkrun.com
Our normal route is currently not in use due to one of the bridges in the park being out of bounds. We are fortunate enough to have a “back up” which we have affectionately called “The Beast”. This route is very undulating and a good challenge to anyone. Witton Park is beautiful and this alternative route makes the most of what it has to offer.
