King George’s Hall in Blackburn will be lit up on the evening of Friday 28 April, International Workers’ Memorial Day, as a mark of respect to workers who lost their lives at work.
International Workers’ Memorial Day takes place annually. Led by the trade union movement, as well as remembering workers who lost their lives to workplace illness or injury, the aim is to recommit to keeping workers safe.
In Blackburn, there will be a short ceremony at the Workers’ Memorial Day tree near Sudell Cross at 12.30pm on Friday 28 April. Representatives from Blackburn with District Trades Council will make short speeches and wreaths will be laid to honour those who have died as a result of workplace incidents.
The Blackburn with District Trades Council is a meeting of various workers’ unions in the area, including Unite, Unison GMB and CWU.
