“Hungary” for something new? Visit Budapest Lángos at Darwen Market!

A new stall offering up an authentic taste of Hungary opened on Saturday at Darwen Market.

Husband and wife team, Nandor and Ágota, are bringing delicious Hungarian street food to Darwen with their stall, Budapest Lángos.

Lángos, pronounced “LAHN-gauche”, has been a popular dish in Hungary for centuries, and is sometimes dubbed “Hungarian pizza”. It’s made from deep-fried sourdough and can be served with a variety of tasty toppings – but it’s always best eaten fresh and warm. To begin with, Nandor and Ágota are keeping it classic, serving their lángos with salt or garlic, or with sour cream and/or grated cheese. The beauty of lángos is its simplicity and versatility, and the duo plan to introduce new options and varieties in the future. Lactose-free options are available for those who require them.

In addition to lángos, customers can enjoy Hungarian pancakes, or palacsinta, with traditional fillings. Palacsinta are crepe-like pancakes, and popular fillings include cottage cheese with vanilla sugar and zesty lemon peel. Again, Nandor and Ágota plan to introduce more options and flavours soon. Fresh homemade lemonade is on offer – the perfect refreshing drink to enjoy alongside these Hungarian delicacies.

Nandor and Ágota have wanted to open their own food stall for a long time, and are very excited to bring Hungarian street food to Darwen. As well as supplying the people of Darwen and local areas with tasty food, another priority of theirs is to have a sustainable, plastic-free stall. Therefore, all utensils and cutlery will be made from paper, including paper cups, straws, trays and bags.

There has already been an excellent response on Facebook, and the stall was very busy with curious customers when it opened at the weekend! The stall is located in the Annexe.

Please like and follow Budapest Lángos on Facebook and spread the word to show your support.
