Help others to improve your wellbeing

Published Wednesday 9 June 2021 at 13:44

It’s week four of Five Ways to Wellbeing – a proven, simple set of actions that anyone can take to positively impact their day-to-day wellbeing.

Helping others is just one of five small improvements that can help you feel good about yourself and the world around you.

  • Committing an act of kindness once a week over a six-week period can increase your wellbeing.
  • Do something nice for a friend, or stranger; thank or smile at someone; volunteer or join a community group.
  • Only got 5 minutes? Show your appreciation for someone by thanking them publicly.

Use the 5 Ways to Wellbeing to discover a range of services and activities in the borough that can make you feel good and function well.

Why help others: wellbeing in action

Carrying out acts of kindness, whether small or large, can increase happiness, life satisfaction and general sense of wellbeing.

The 7th – 13th June is also National Carers week. Carers Week is an annual
campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers
face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities
throughout the UK. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as
having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed
support.
