In a push to continue to try and reach out to older people living in Blackburn with Darwen an information event was held last week to help residents check if they are eligible for pension credit.
Help us to spread the ‘don’t rule yourself out’ message to relatives, neighbours and friends and anyone you may be working with.
With winter and other bills dropping through the letterbox please check if you may be entitled to pension credit or other entitlements.
Pension credit can be claimed at any time of the year and we are working with Age Uk to provide help to complete the application totally free of charge.
Many older people rule themselves out of even checking their entitlement like one lady seen last week. Aged 71 she lives alone and as she was in receipt of housing benefit and Council tax reduction she assumed she wasn’t eligible. She was in fact eligible for £42.64 extra per week along with other entitlements and will now also get the winter fuel payment in 2025.
This short video highlights some of the reasons why it’s important not to rule yourselves out, and check whether you could be eligible.
