‘Heads together’ to support mental health

“Let’s put our heads together.” That’s the message from Blackburn with Darwen Council as it launches a new campaign today (Monday, April 20) to support the mental health and wellbeing of Blackburn with Darwen’s residents during the coronavirus crisis.

Coronavirus has changed lives across the world in ways that were unimaginable just a few weeks ago.

We appreciate what a deeply worrying time this is for everyone and the extra stress we’re all under can have a negative impact on mental health and wellbeing.

Good mental health and wellbeing is vitally important for all of us and especially at this testing time.

That’s why, as a Council, we’re putting our heads together with partner organisations from across Lancashire, who we’ve been working with on the response to the crisis, to launch a social media campaign to support people’s mental health and wellbeing.

The ‘let’s put our heads together’ campaign will target the whole population of Blackburn with Darwen from children and young people to adults and older people with relevant messaging and signposting to support services.

Available support will come from national services like Big White Wall, Samaritans, Kooth, Age UK and CALM as well as the wider wellbeing offer available from the Council such as Re:fresh, adult learning, library resources and the local cultural offer.

Keep an eye on Blackburn with Darwen Council’s social media channels Twitter  / Facebook as the campaign rolls out over the next month and beyond.

Councillor Damian Talbot, Executive Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said:

We know how incredibly difficult the current situation is for everyone as we find ourselves in these unprecedented circumstances.

Good mental health and wellbeing is vitally important as we face up to the continued lockdown conditions, which are a vital necessity but an understandable strain on everyone.

That’s why this mental health campaign we’re launching today is so important and welcome and hopefully can help raise awareness of, and signpost people to, a range of brilliant services that are available to support people’s health and wellbeing at this time.
