The event that took place at Witton Park, the home of Blackburn Harriers, saw the club welcome the pair who competed at the Olympics in Rio.

Hammer thrower Hitchon brought home a bronze from Rio while modern pentathlete Murray who won a silver in the 2012 Olympics came ninth.

The club also congratulated pole-vaulter Holly Bradshaw, who is also a member and came fifth in her competition.

She unfortunately couldn’t attend the celebration as she was competing in Zurich.

Messages were received and read out by Harrier’s chairman Tony Wood from the Mayor Councillor Hussain Akhtar, MP Kate Hollern.

Also in attendance were representatives of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council that has worked with the club in the development of the facilities for the club at Witton Park.
