Today we share greetings to everyone celebrating Diwali.

Wishing you happy times with your loved ones during the festival of lights.

This year, Diwali falls on Thursday 4th November 2021, followed by the New Year on Friday, 5th November 2021.

Ashok Chudasama, Chair of Blackburn Hindu Centre, said:

As we are all affected by Covid-19, our members will still celebrate Diwali, but in their own homes – with Diwali decorations, drawing rangoli patterns near their entrances, lighting deevas in safe places, enjoy the festive food and of course letting off fireworks in their gardens at the end.

Diwali is a religious celebration for Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, and is marked by some Buddhists too. Known as the festival of lights, the celebration marks the return of Lord Rama and his wife Sita after 14 years of exile, and victory over the demon Ravana.

To celebrate, people decorate their homes with lights, candles and lamps, and sometimes let off fireworks too.

The lights have a symbolic meaning that good triumphs over evil.
