The Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn with Darwen were guests of honour at a recent High Tea event hosted by the One Voice Women’s Network.

100 guests attended the event, part of a long running One Voice community cohesion initiative, including Blackburn with Darwen Council Leader, Councillor Mohammed Khan, and a number of Council staff.

The event in St Francis’s Church Hall, in Blackburn brought together people from across the borough’s diverse communities to enjoy an afternoon of friendship and food, served by One Voice’s West End Girls (WEGs).

One Voice Blackburn is a Community Interest Company that aspires to create an inclusive, cohesive and vibrant community in Blackburn with Darwen.

Isma Sajid, lead of the One Voice Women’s Network, said:

We always look forward to the annual High Tea event. It is a great opportunity to get to know new people and new cultures in a relaxed and friendly ambience.

Rebecca Ramsay, Community Co-ordinator at Blackburn with Darwen Council, also enjoyed the event. Rebecca added:

I had a lovely afternoon at the One Voice High Tea Event. The room was beautiful, the sandwiches and cakes were delicious and were supplied with smiles by the One Voice volunteers. But more than all of that, the company was superb. It was a genuinely lovely way to catch up with familiar faces and make some new contacts too.
