Give your career a great start with a Council apprenticeship

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week the Council is launching its new 2019 jobs scheme.

We are looking to recruit up to 40 new apprentices this year as part of the Council’s ongoing scheme which has been running since 2011. The new job opportunities are for people of all ages.

We currently have 46 apprentices across the council including trades areas, Finance, HR, IT, Early Years, Neighbourhoods and Adult Social Care.

85% of our Apprentices go on to secure further employment within the Council at the end of their training, with the rest taking up external opportunities.

The work the Council does is always changing so no two days are ever the same. We have more than 200 different kinds of jobs and are the most diverse employer in the Borough.

Many people don’t realise the range of opportunities that exist within the Council, from plumbers, jobs in sport and leisure and childcare, to carers and IT to gardeners.

If you are interested in learning more about our apprenticeships, you can come along to one of the events:

  • Witton City Learning Centre, Wednesday, 27th March from 5.30pm to 8pm
  • Darwen Vale High School, Thursday 25th April, from 5.45 to 8pm.

Council leader Councillor Mohammed Khan said:

We have had some massive successes with our apprenticeship scheme, including national awards for apprentices and seeing people build their careers and talents here. I am really looking forward to seeing what the new group will bring to the Council.”

Harry Catherall, Chief Executive of Blackburn with Darwen Council, who started his career as an apprentice, added:

We have some amazing apprenticeship opportunities at the Council and I urge people to attend one of the open evenings to find out more. We have been investing in people through our apprenticeship scheme for years, seeing so much talent and hard work, and want it to keep growing and thriving.”
