Give a massive thanks to all our amazing volunteers!

It’s time to celebrate all the wonderful helpers in Blackburn with Darwen and all the amazing things they do.

This Volunteers’ Week, from June 1st to 7th, the Council and Community CVS are encouraging everyone to take the time to say thank you to all volunteers who make our borough a better place.

During this exceptionally difficult year, people from all walks of life in Blackburn and Darwen have taken the time to volunteer and made a huge difference to people and our communities – just as they do every year.

Despite the restrictions coronavirus has placed on our daily lives, local volunteers have been active through the lockdowns to support people and their community in Blackburn with Darwen.

Volunteer’s Week recognises all of those who have carried on delivering vital work as volunteers over the past 12 months but also all those who usually volunteer but have not been able to because of the pandemic.

Councillor Mohammed Khan, Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, said:

Our volunteers in Blackburn with Darwen have always been the beating heart of or borough, and this is especially true of this last year which has been so difficult.

So many people have benefitted from our selfless volunteers in so many areas, from simply helping a neighbour with their shopping, keeping community centres going and setting up and running local groups that are a lifeline to so many.

I hope we can all take the time to speak to our local volunteers this week and say a huge thank you for all the work they do.”

The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering. However, the coronavirus pandemic has rightly raised the profile of volunteering and more people than ever are aware of the immense contribution being made every single day by our volunteers.

That is why in Volunteers Week it’s time to say: thankyou volunteers!

To celebrate all our fantastic volunteers, Community CVS and the Council are launching the Community Volunteer Awards this week after a break last year due to the pandemic – keep an eye out for all details on that from Wednesday, June 3rd.
