Get your voice heard at local events

Got things you’d like to raise about living in your neighbourhood? Want to share opinions about how people in the area get along?

There are two Community Voices events coming up in November that give you the opportunity to do just that.

Run by the Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Peace Foundation, Community Voices events are designed to bring local people together to discuss what it’s like to live in the borough. They also provide a chance to talk about issues which are sometimes considered difficult to bring up.

Nearly 250 local people have so far taken the opportunity to go along to Community Voices events to have discussions with others about how much change there’s been in the borough over the last ten years, and how they feel about that. There have been debates about new communities moving into the borough, and other subjects to do with race, culture and belonging.

After taking part, Samia from Blackburn said:

I felt so involved. I felt like my voice mattered and my issues mattered. That makes me really want to get involved in my community.

Agi, who also lives in Blackburn, commented:

It’s about addressing some really important questions and talking about things which are important for all of us – for our children, for our families, for our communities.

November’s Community Voices events are taking place in Blackburn on these dates:

Wednesday 13 November – 6pm to around 9pm, at the SAMS building on Newfield Drive, Higher Croft, BB2 3UA

Wednesday 27 November – 6pm to around 9pm, at St Joseph’s Church, Audley Range, BB1 1TG

The Peace Foundation’s lead facilitator Christine Cox said:

Everyone is welcome to come and share their views and ideas. You can register in advance, if you like – or just turn up on the evening. There’s also food and refreshments at every session.

To register for any of these events, or to find out more, phone 01925 581 231 or 01254 304597, email info@peace-foundation.org.uk or follow and message the charity on Twitter @peacefoundation.

Community Voices events are part of Blackburn with Darwen Council’s social integration programme, Our Community, Our Future. This is a three-year programme which brings together a wide range of local partners working together to strengthen relationships between people from different backgrounds, to help the borough become a place where diversity is valued and where people’s faith and cultures are understood and respected.
