Visiting a brewery might not be your usual day out with the kids but this February half term, Blackburn’s Old Thwaites Brewery will be transformed in to a theme park.
Escape to Fun Island is a funfair for all the family that’s in town from the 10th until the 20th of February.
Described as ‘an exuberant family theme park’, the fair will include a fantasyland of magic, white knuckle and family fun rides, princesses and superheroes.
Rides are being shipped in from Europe into Blackburn for the 10-day spectacular, with organisers set to bring the biggest Ferris wheel Blackburn has ever had to the town centre site.
There will also be a firework display held on each Saturday night that the fair is in town.
Organisers from Cubbins Leisure said:
We are aiming to create memories for you and your kids to cherish. Escape to Fun Island is as its name suggests – an escape, an escape from winter blues, and an escape from everything we have all been going through and enjoy some good old-fashioned family fun. Lots of traditional family favourites to warm the collective cockles.
Escape to Fun Island opens on the 10th of February at Old Thwaites Brewery, Penny Street, Blackburn Town Centre, BB1 4HQ.
Opening times on the 10th and 11th are from 5pm to 9pm. All other dates (from the 12th to the 20th) it will open from 12pm to 9pm.
The rides and attractions operate both pre-purchasable tokens (with special offers online) and you can pay cash or card on the day.
Councillor Phil Riley, Executive Member for Growth and Development at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, said:
We have been working with the organisers to help bring this event to the heart of our town centre.
Excitement is already building, with a lot of buzz about the attractions on offer. We hope having this calibre of funfair in a prime town centre location will very much appeal to families, young and old, looking for something fun to do during the half term.
It puts the Old Thwaites Brewery site in to good use over the short term. Anyone heading in to town can also pop in to the market or the mall for their lunch or shopping, further helping to support our local businesses to give traders a welcome boost during this time.
The entry fee is just £2 and includes magic shows, dinosaurs, balloon modelling and Greatest Showman performances.
Ride prices start from £2 and either cash or tokens can be used. Tokens are £1 each and rides cost from two to five tokens. Any tokens not used on the day can also be used again if people want to attend another day.
