Blackburn with Darwen Libraries have joined the super highway and are now offering free access to Wi-Fi for all visitors in each of its libraries.
The move has been funded by the Government’s Wifi in Public Libraries grant which is managed by Arts Council England.
Visitors are able to log in to the Wi-Fi with their smartphones, tablets and computers at all five Council libraries.
Users will be able to use the free service to get online and access library services, information sites, online job and training websites as well as accessing social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
Many of the council’s services and facilities are also now online meaning visitors will have access to many services such as paying your council tax online, reporting any incidents and catching up on the boroughs latest news.
Councillor Damian Talbot, Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Young People, said: “This is a great addition to our library service and is something that we know our users will value particularly those who come to the library to do research or study. It’s especially important as many of our services can be accessed this way so we want to ensure that everyone has the chance to do this regardless of what access they may have at home.”
