Free summer fun at Blackburn with Darwen markets!

Come along and join in with six weeks of summer fun for all the family at our markets in Blackburn and Darwen.

Experience magic shows, theatre and unleash your creativity with crafts, drama and slime workshops, story jars, pottery making and talent shows!

The markets are working in collaboration with Crafty Vintage to provide fun and creative summer holiday activities for families in the borough.

From Wednesday 24th July until Friday 30th August, the programme has some of the regular favourites, including magic shows, face painting and crafts; alongside some new activities such as slime workshops and drama workshops.

Back by popular demand is the Just Imagine Interactive Theatre Company; over the six weeks you can expect to meet many much loved characters such as Cinderella and Prince Charming, Mary Poppins and Bert, Elsa and Kristoff, Peter and Tink and superheroes and villains.

If you want to join in the fun, why not dress up on these themed days?

There is also an opportunity at Darwen to take part in a Talent Show and in Blackburn to attend a silent disco with a mocktail bar!

Councillor Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration said:

It is great to be putting on these activities in our Markets and attracting families in to our town centres.

We want to provide young people the opportunity to take part in creative and purposeful activities.

Laura Johnson, Owner of Crafty Vintage, added:

We are really excited about this year’s programme.

There are some fantastic creative and crafty goings-on.

We have some new partners working with us this year; we think that our Slime and Drama workshops will be a big hit!

She went on to say:

We want to bring to people’s attention the change in days and times of activities at each market, this responds to feedback received from participants, workshop leaders and traders from the last few holiday programmes.

Blackburn Market activities will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s 2pm-4pm with sessions at Darwen Market on Monday and Friday’s from 12pm-3pm with the addition of Wednesday 24th July and Wednesday 28th August.

The markets will be closed on Monday 26th August due to the Bank Holiday.

You can find specific dates and activities here.

There is no need to book on to the activities; they are on a first come, first served basis.

Some of the sessions have limited places available, so please come down early to avoid disappointment!
