Free bike health checks sessions and bike maintenance workshops are being made available to Blackburn with Darwen residents this August, thanks to Department for Transport funding.
Cycle Roots and Cotton Town Bikes are providing free bike health checks this August with Cotton Town Bikes also offering free bike workshops every Thursday in August.
In these workshops you can learn how to keep your bike in great condition and do minor repairs yourself.
These sessions are available to cyclists of all abilities, so if you feel like you’ll be out of place because you only do wheelies in the garden, you won’t be – these sessions are for you too.
Cycling and walking levels increased throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, so the offer of free Dr Bike sessions by Cycle Roots in Blackburn and Cotton Town Bikes in Darwen is welcome news.
Councillor Damian Talbot, Executive Member for Public Health, Prevention & Wellbeing, said:
It is fantastic news that the Capability Funding which was awarded to the Council is being used to help our residents turn to cycling. Whether it is as a leisurely activity or a means of transport, cycling is an activity which can improve our health and reduces air pollution.
More recently, with rising fuel costs, cycling and walking particularly for those shorter journeys makes more financial sense too.
Cycle Roots held a free repair session in Blackburn last month which proved popular and are delighted to announce additional sessions in August across Blackburn.
