An exciting new arts project exploring Blackburn’s fascinating past will be on display throughout the town centre from this Saturday (March 11).
Found In Blackburn will showcase the work of 12 artists all inspired by local people, their memories, and the historic buildings in the town.
The exhibition includes photographs of ‘Old Blackburn’ that will be installed on paving stones across the town centre and a photographic exhibition looking at the history of the Thwaites brewery in Blackburn.
It also features the work of two local filmmakers who have produced a film called Hidden Blackburn, which explores three venues, Tony’s Ballroom, Waterfall Mill and Holy Trinity Church, and their modern equivalents.
The film will be premiered at The Bureau Centre for the Arts on Saturday at 4:30pm.
Newly established community Darkroom ‘Obscura’ got the public involved in their submission for Found in Blackburn by giving out 100 disposable film cameras for people to take photos of the town.
The results form a permanent public artwork which will be displayed on the Debenhams side of The Mall.
Artist Elly Langlois invited people to tweet her thoughts about Blackburn.
And socially engaged artist Elly Langlois based her art installation on the responses she received when she invited Twitter users to Tweet her possible futures and hopes for Blackburn using only five words.
These thoughts have been captured using glowing neon wire and installed in various windows around the town.
Found in Blackburn is funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund and supported by Blackburn with Darwen Council. It will run from 10 am to 6:30pm on Saturday.
