Foster carers on hand to give advice

Published Monday 15 May 2017 at 11:43

A number of Blackburn with Darwen foster carers will be at an information event today to chat and give advice to anybody thinking about fostering.

The fostering information stand is in the Mall, Blackburn, today (Monday, May 15) throughout the day to mark Foster Care Fortnight, 2017.

Blackburn with Darwen Council is looking to recruit more foster carers to help give children  and young people in the borough a loving and stable home.

The Council needs foster carers to look after children of all ages but there is a specific shortage for carers to look after older children, sibling groups and children with disabilities.

The message is ‘don’t rule yourself out’. You may have pre-conceptions about the role of fostering and think there are too many barriers.

The reality is that almost anybody can be considering for fostering. If you are single, a couple, in a same sex relationship or even if you are in employment, you can still be considered for fostering.

Fostering is a rewarding, professional, paid role and could be an alternative career option.

You don’t have to own your own home to be considered for fostering, as long as you have a spare bedroom and room in your heart that’s what we are looking for.

To find out more please come along and meet our friendly foster carers and fostering team at the information stand today, which is outside Boots.
