Following a fire breaking out at Pleasington Crematorium around 11.20am today, we have issued the following statement.
Martin Eden, Strategic Director of Environment & Operations, said:
As soon as we were notified of the fire, I attended the scene at the crematorium to support our cemeteries team and offer condolences to the family affected.
We appreciate that this is a highly distressing situation for everyone involved, and our team is offering support to the family directly affected today, and to families with services booked in the coming days.
Access to Pleasington Cemetery is currently restricted, and the advice is to stay away from the area.
We’re working to establish the extent of the damage and also when the crematorium can reopen. We are already updating any families affected through funeral directors.
We are working with the Fire Service to establish how the fire started, and to make the building safe as soon as possible.
The Fire Service attended and quickly extinguished the fire.
Read our updated statement from Friday 9June.
