If you’re looking for ways to make a positive difference to the lives of others in Blackburn with Darwen, then make your way to the CVS Volunteers’ Fair to find out about local volunteering opportunities.
To mark the beginning of Volunteers’ Week this year, Community CVS will be hosting a Volunteers’ Fair on Thursday 1st June between 10am and 2pm.
This year Volunteers’ Week runs between the 1st– 7th June and is a time to celebrate and inspire volunteers as well as recruiting new ones.
This year 23 organisations will be attending the Volunteers’ Fair ready to offer advice and sign people up who are able to dedicate their time. These include re:fresh who are seeking cycling volunteers, British Heart Foundation who need volunteers, Nightsafe homeless charity who need volunteer mentors, and Lancashire Constabulary who need extra PCSOs – as well as a range of Council services that encourage volunteers to get involved.
Volunteering helps to boost confidence and improve our health and wellbeing – it’s one of the ways to get active and healthy again is by helping others. It’s also a great way to boost your CV and meet new people.
Kate Lee, Volunteering Manager at CVS, said:
Volunteering is a good place to start whether you’re using your own lived experience and recovery from a dark place, or helping out behind the scenes in a charity shop. Volunteering is a great way to help yourself and others.
If you’d like to learn more about how volunteering can help you, find out about the diverse range of opportunities and meet some amazing, kind, caring people then come along and join us.
Leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, Coun Phil Riley, said:
It is our aim to build healthier, happier and safer communities and volunteering is one key way to doing just that. If we can work together by bringing our skills, qualities and lived experiences to the lives of others then that is a great way to help out. There are huge benefits of volunteering and it can make a real difference to the lives of others.
The fair is being held at the CVS Boulevard Centre in Blackburn and is open to any age group who can join in with community groups, there will be fun activities and freebies, snacks and refreshments on the day.
