Hundreds of people helped to raise funds for a vital cause at a Bangor Street Community Centre fun day.
Over a thousand people attended the event, which included a football tournament, face painting, craft activities, henna painting, bouncy castle and lots more. The event was in aid of the Mayor’s Charity, the Blackburn with Darwen Kidney Care Appeal.
Blackburn United Football Club hosted the football tournament and partners from re:fresh, the borough’s Young People’s Service (YPS), Family Learning Team, Children’s Services, Blackburn United Football Club, Healthy Living Centre, Age UK and Bangor Street Health centre all worked hard to make the event a success.
The Mayor, Cllr Salim Mulla, said: “This event was absolutely wonderful and it was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves. Everyone there helped to raise an enormous amount of money for the charity and I am incredibly grateful.”
One of the organisers, Rizwana Zaahid, said, “It was a fantastic event and showed what the community spirit is like around Bangor Street. The staff worked very hard and I was amazed with the fantastic turnout. It was brilliant! Special mention to Iqbal Bhai and Asif Hussain for working hard to organise and manage the event with such a fantastic turnout. We have raised over £1,000 for the mayors charity which is going to as great cause.”
