Have you ever wondered what exactly the Shared Lives scheme is?
We’ve put together three handy short videos to explain everything about the programme – and to introduce you to some of our fantastic Shared Lives carers and service users.
These videos give you the chance to meet the people who take part in all aspects of the Shared Lives scheme who are here to tell you all about how it works.

Shared Lives is a care and support service for people 18 and over who want to live independently in their community, with the support of a person or family and community network. It’s an alternative to supported living or residential care.
Unlike other supported accommodation, people move into a family home with their carer, sharing their family life. It is based on shared interests, lifestyles and family.
Shared Lives gives people the chance to live in a family environment and become part of a community. It helps people gain confidence and skills to live independently. As well as gaining a new family unit, hey are able to maintain existing friendships as well as develop new ones. They often get involved in clubs, activities and volunteering.
People using the scheme continue to see their own family and friends as much as they want.

Next week is also Shared Lives Week, meaning the spotlight will be on the scheme not only in Blackburn with Darwen, but across the country.
