The Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen, Coun Brian Taylor, has recorded a video message to share Eid greetings with everyone who’ll be celebrating this week.
Eid ul Fitr, one of two major holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world, marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
In his video message on behalf of Blackburn with Darwen Council, the Mayor says:
Eid is such a special time for many local families, and I hope everyone who is celebrating enjoys this time together.
Of course, Muslims around the world have been observing Ramadan for the last month. This is a very special time too and, as Mayor, I’ve been in the privileged position to attend many Ramadan events.
It’s been wonderful to see lots of individuals and local organisations using this time of year for charitable efforts, raising money for important causes that support people – both locally and further afield.
I’m very grateful to have been invited to attend a number of Iftars, the sharing of food at the end of the Ramadan fast. I’ve seen many people from across our borough’s diverse communities coming together, to share food and learn more about other cultures. I know that many people have been doing this informally with their friends and colleagues too.
It’s these moments of togetherness, compassion and understanding that make me proud to be a part of the diverse community we have in the borough.
