A special event is being held to celebrate volunteers who have worked at the children’s centres.
Taking place at Livesey Children’s Centre, it is to acknowledge the valuable role that volunteers play in the work that children’s centre do. Each volunteer will receive a commemorative certificate thanking them for their work.
Past and present volunteers spoke about their personal journey and experiences of volunteering on a specially-made video shown at the event.
Also attending were Senior Children’s Services managers and the Children’s Centre Management team members, Public Health colleagues, Councillors and Chairs of Children’s Centre advisory boards.
Over the past three years, 74 volunteers have supported children’s centres actives and services.
The volunteer programme is open to adults who have an interest in children’s centres and the services they provide (directly and indirectly) and wish to gain experience in various tasks including reception work, catering, cleaning, organising events and activities, groups for children and parents and childcare.
Where volunteers have different interest such as health delivery or work with credit union they are supported to access these opportunities.
Councillor Maureen Bateson, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Executive Member for Children’s Services, said: “I am really glad we are celebrating the volunteers who have given their time to children and their families in children’s centres across the borough.
“They all work incredibly hard and love what they do, and I am really glad this event could celebrate the positive impact they have.”
