Darwen parks are looking good

Darwen residents can expect a better park experience after maintenance work has been carried out in three of the neighbourhood parks.

Green spaces are so important to communities, not only as shared spaces for walking, running and cycling, but mental health is improved when you spend time in the great outdoors. Well maintained paths are an essential part of making our green spaces accessible to all.

What work has been carried out?

  • Bold Venture:  429m of tarmac paths laid plus renewed any drainage that wasn’t working.
  • Whitehall Park:  716m of tarmac paths laid plus drainage to stop the large amounts of water causing damage in bad weather conditions.
  • Sunnyhurst Park: 2,038m of paths laid using type 1 MOT, also put new ditches and land drains to divert water problems.

Marjan Wouda, local resident and Chair of Whitehall Park Supporter Group, is passionate about keeping our local parks in tip top condition for best possible community use. She said:

We are absolutely delighted to see these paths refreshed. So many local older, less able residents have been able to visit and enjoy Whitehall Park for the first time in years thanks to this work.

Members of Whitehall Park’s Little Potters children’s club and the gardening club are pleased that now they can navigate their wheelbarrows with ease up the main path, and welcome all members of their community back into the park.

The new park paths are opening up our green spaces to more residents just in time for summer.
