The brand new Darwen Market Square is set to host a regional brass band contest, which will see over 20 brass bands from all over the North West and as far as Yorkshire and Wales taking part.
The fifth Annual March and Hymn Tune Contest will be held on Sunday, September 22, 12pm – 6pm.
During the contest the bands will play a short march as they arrive, and in the square they will play a “contest march” followed by a hymn. This will then be judged by an adjudicator.
The Blackburn and Darwen Junior Band will also be featured during the adjudicators break. Anyone interested in learning more or joining the junior band can come along on the day or contact Sue Speakman.
Organised by Blackburn and Darwen Band and supported by Darwen Town Council, this year’s competition will feature more bands than ever before.
The new Darwen Market Square was completed in August 2019, ready to host a variety of events.
Councillor Phil Riley, Executive Member for Growth and Development, said:
It’s fantastic that the new Darwen Market Square is going to be at the centre of this contest. It’s a great space with lots of potential and I hope it will bring more exciting events to Darwen.
All are welcome to this free family event.
