Darwen Market Kitchen event with special MasterChef guest

Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council is delighted to be hosting what is hoped to be the first of many Darwen Market Kitchen events on Saturday, September 29th from 10am until 4pm.

This free event is open to the public and will see chefs and cooks from market stalls and town centre cafés and restaurants, joined by special guest MasterChef finalist 2018 Moonira Hinglotwala. All of the chefs will be doing cookery demonstrations and giving out delicious samples.

Almost every single ingredient will be sourced from Darwen Market and recipe cards will be available on the day detailing where the produce was sourced and allowing the dishes to be recreated at home.

Cllr. Phil Riley, Executive Member for Regeneration said:

The fresh, local produce that is sold on Darwen market is some of the finest you will come across. This is set to be a great event, showcasing not only the produce, but the talent of some of our local cooks and of course our special guest Moonira. Come along to support the event in Darwen Market, which is at the heart of the town.”

Moonira Hinglotwala, a local business woman, did fantastically well on this year’s MasterChef by reaching the finals and went on to be named Woman of the Year 2018 at the Fusion Awards.

She has continued to experiment with food since the competition and has had a number of opportunities to share her passion and food with others. Moonira was thrilled to be asked to come along to this Darwen Market Kitchen event in her home borough.

She said:

I was born and bred in Blackburn and food has always been an integral part of my life. As a wife, mother and pharmacist, I like to buy locally and take an interest in where my food comes from. The market is a meeting place for friends and family, where food can be eaten as well as produce bought.”

I am looking forward to coming to Darwen and cooking a dish allowing people to experience my modern take on authentic Indian flavours. I am keen to try out the other dishes on offer too!”

Alongside Moonira, Darwen Market’s very own Julie Ingham from Tease Your Tastebuds and Verity Ward from Rushton’s The Bacon Stall will be taking centre stage to share one of their favourite recipes. We also have new business owner Rachel Ball and chef Nicola Gillingham from The Black Olive taking part.

Foodies this is an event for you! It is free to attend, with food to taste and recipe cards to take away.
